Welcome to the second edition of Birka Historical Tattoo Fest on June 6-9, 2024.

Here you will meet 35 world-class artists from the historical, Nordic, Celtic, Baltic, and ornamental tattoo scenes, working with various historical and modern methods. If you’re planning to get tattooed and want to book an appointment, please contact the tattoo artist directly. Depending on availability, there may be drop-in times available.

During the event, you’ll also meet Vikings, be able to purchase replicas and historical crafts, have your fortune read in runes, try archery, participate in workshops, and listen to historical folk music by @dajogniaband and @javaryna.

Travel to the Birka Historical Tattoo Fest 2024

Are you planning your trip to Birka for the Birka Historical Tattoo Fest? There are several options for getting to and from Birka.

Boat from Stockholm

From Klara Mälarstrand in central Stockholm, you can take a boat to Birka. We have several departures daily, and you’ll travel with M/S Mälar Victoria or M/S Nya Hjelmare Kanal.

Price and Booking of Boat

The boat ticket includes a 3.5-5 hour stay on the island depending on the departure, round-trip boat trip, entrance to the museum, a guided tour of the archaeological site, and performances.

The price for a round-trip boat from Stockholm to Birka starts at 520 SEK for adults. Children aged 6-15 pay half price, and children 0-5 ride for free but must have a booked ticket.

Don’t forget to book your boat trip well in advance to guarantee your spot onboard.

Taxi Boat from Hovgården, Adelsö

From Hovgården on Adelsö, you can take the Särimner Boat Taxi. During the Birka Historical Tattoo Fest, the taxi boat will depart at fixed times. Tickets needs to be purchased onboard and cannot be pre-booked. You pay with card or Swish.

The price for adults is SEK 350 per person and free for children up to 15 years old. The ticket price includes the ability to be on the island at any time between 11:00 AM and 8:00 PM, a round-trip boat trip, entrance to the museum, a guided tour of the archaeological site, and performances.

Departure from Birka to Hovgården

Daily – 2:30 PM, 4:30 PM, 6:30 PM, 8:00 PM
Saturday – 10:30 PM, 11:30 PM

Travel to Hovgården by Bus

Take SL bus 312 from Brommaplan all the way to Adelsö. The bus stop you should get off at is called Adelsö kyrka. From the bus stop, it’s a short walk down to the pier, see the map further down on the page.

Accommodation - Various Options

Here we present the various accommodation options available to book during the Birka Historical Tattoo Fest on June 6-9, 2024. Choose the option that suits you best – don’t forget to book well in advance to guarantee your spot.

Camping at Birka – Own Tent

There will be an area on Birka where you can set up your modern tent. You will also have access to toilets and showers.

Price and Information

SEK 100 per person per night.
Paid at the museum upon arrival.

Please specify in advance the size of your tent (2-person tent, 4-person tent, etc.), the number of people, and the dates you plan to stay to birka.museet@stromma.se.

Breakfast at Café Eldrimner

Between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM, there will be a simple breakfast available for purchase at Café Eldrimner.

Do you want to indulge in luxury during your stay at Birka? Then book one of our five glamping tents, which can accommodate 2 to 4 people. Our package includes:
