Viking School at birka

Welcome to Birka’s Viking School – a fun, hands-on activity where children get to explore what everyday life could have been like in Viking times.

At the Viking School, children can try a range of Viking-inspired activities. They might grind flour and bake bread, learn to write with runes, practise archery, or have a go at traditional crafts.

What children can try at Viking School

At Viking School, the activities vary from day to day. For example, children might get to:

  • Learn runes and try writing them themselves
  • Grind flour and bake bread from scratch, Viking-style
  • Try archery
  • Hands-on crafts, such as blacksmithing, woodcraft and textile crafts

Each station takes about 10 minutes to complete.
